I am a research manager at NEC Laboratories America in California, leading the Information Analysis Department. Before joining NEC Labs, I was a senior research scientist at Siemens Corporate Technology at the lovely city Munich in Germany. I obtained my Ph.D in computer science from University of Munich (LMU), supervised by Prof. Hans-Peter Kriegel and Dr. Volker Tresp (Siemens AG), and received the B.Sc and M.Sc degrees both in electrical engineering from Nanjing University, China, in 1998 and 2000 respectively.

Updates:

·        I am managing the Information Analysis Department at NEC Labs America, October 2009. 

·        I will serve as an Area Chair at ICML 2010, for areas Gaussian Processes, Bayesian Inference, Recommender Systems, and Statistical Relational Learning, October 2009. 

·        We won the Winner Prize at PASCAL VOC2009 Challenge! Our team achieved No.1 places for 18 object classes among totally 20 classes! September 2009.

·        I have taught a graduate-level course Data Mining ISM 245 at University of California, Santa Cruz, for the spring quarter 2009, April 2009. 

·        I served as Session Chair of “Transfer Learning” at ICML09, and contributed to an ICML tutorial with Volker Tresp, June 2009

·        I served as Co-chair of ICML workshop on “learning feature hierarchies” with Ruslan Salakhutdinov, Yann LeCun, Geoffrey E. Hinton, and Yoshua Bengio, June 2009. 

·        Our team achieved No.1 places in all the tasks we participated at the TRECVID 2008, organized by US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), September 2008.
